Plans for Manchester City’s pre-season tour ahead of the 2026/27 campaign are due to be unveiled soon, according to reports.
The logistical challenge facing City this summer is unlike any other, particularly given the 48-team 2026 FIFA World Cup kicking off across North America on June 11, and the vast majority of Pep Guardiola’s squad due to be occupied on the global stage until well into July.
This leaves a remarkably narrow window for the Blues to undergo their traditional commercial and tactical preparations before the Premier League season officially kicks off on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Compounding these scheduling headaches is the increasingly volatile geopolitical climate, given the ongoing conflict in the Middle East undoubtedly forcing club officials to rethink safety protocols.
Now, responding to fan questions on various elements of City’s ongoing operation, the Manchester Evening News’ Simon Bajkowski has been quizzed on where Pep Guardiola’s side will be heading for their pre-season tour this summer.
“Fans will soon find out about the tour, although it’s worth pointing out there is a lot of uncertainty owing to the war in Iran,” Bajkowski revealed.
“A warm-weather training camp in the UAE does not sound as appealing as it did before all the bombs started flying around that area of the world.
“It is likely that nearly everyone in the City squad barring a handful (if that) of senior players will be at the World Cup but I am not expecting a watered-down tour even if City have to push the schedule a bit later and have more from the squad join up for later parts of it.”
Bajkowski concluded, “The other big question for the tour is will [Pep] Guardiola still be in charge to oversee it? You would expect an answer on that in the coming weeks as well.
The mention of Pep Guardiola’s future adds a significant layer of intrigue to the upcoming announcement, and although the Catalan remains contracted until June 2027, speculation has intensified that this current campaign – his tenth at the helm – could be his final act.
With Hugo Viana spearheading the club’s long-term sporting strategy, fans are eager to know if the 2026/27 tour will be a farewell lap for Pep Guardiola or the start of a final rebuilding mission with even more new arrivals.
In the interim, the club’s commercial departments will be finalising tour locations, with the likes of Far-East Asia and Australia likely to be viewed as frontrunners to host the Blues in late July.
Should the Middle East also remain off-limits for pre-season activities, a return to North America would allow Manchester City to capitalise on World Cup scheduling and reunite with players faster.
