The 21-year-old Australian international is in her third season at Manchester City. Fowler has had to be patient for opportunities at The Joie Stadium but she has forced her way into the starting line-up on a consistent basis this season, netting 10 goals in all competitions in the process.
Fowler is now a key member of Manchester City’s attacking unit and the player says that consistency in her performances has come hand-in-hand with a boost in confidence.
“At the moment, I’m quite happy with my individual performances,” Fowler said when speaking to WSL Full-Time. “I think sometimes it takes me time to get comfortable in an environment but having had a run of consistent performances, it has helped me become more confident.
“Consistency is something that I’ve tried to aim for throughout my time at City and this feels like the first season where that has really clicked together.
“Sometimes with these things, it just takes a bit of time getting used to things but I’m happy with how things are going at the moment.”
Looking ahead to the business end of the season, Fowler says that she has set no specific targets other than remaining consistent in her performances.
She said “[Targets] stay the same for me. I try to not get too high with the highs and the same when things are low, I try to stay consistent. There’s still quite a long way to go to the end of the season, so as much as my performances have been good, it’s going to be a bit of a task for me to stay consistent until the end but that’s what I aim to do.”
Fowler netted both goals in Manchester City’s 2-1 Subway Women’s League Cup semi-final victory at Arsenal last week. The player admits that being the match-winner was a great feeling and she now has her sights set on securing a first piece of silverware with The Cityzens.
She said “It felt great. Ever since I came here, I’ve realised how special this squad is. There’s always been such a good vibe between the girls and I’ve really wanted to win something with this team. To get to the final, it’s finally our chance to bring some silverware home. I’m really excited for that and for all of the other girls too.”
Fowler will next be in action for Manchester City when they take on Liverpool at The Joie Stadium on Sunday.
