The chase from Manchester City for one of Serie A’s best full-back operators has now been closed for the January transfer window, according to reports in Italy.

The Premier League champions have been linked with a move for Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso for several weeks, with initial reports indicating that conversations on the side of the player have progressed smoothly with no issues on personal terms.

There has even been discussion over the player himself verbally agreeing to the idea of a five-year contract at Manchester City, although talks with his club have not been as smooth, particularly given the high fees discussed at this stage of the winter market.

Reports in some quarters of Italian media have pointed towards a fee in the region of £75 million being demanded by Juventus, and it would come as no surprise to see Manchester City turn away from such an idea.

And given the time available in the January market, the word from the home of Serie A is that the Premier League champions and officials within the Italian club are putting their conversations over the player on hold.

According to the information of Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Tuttomercatoweb and translated by Sport Witness, Andrea Cambiaso will not be moving from Juventus to Manchester City for now.

It is explained that there is no longer any time left in the ongoing January transfer window for a deal to be negotiated between the two clubs, while it is believed that any offer from Manchester City at this stage of the window will not be enough for Juventus.

Furthermore, should the 24-year-old be allowed to leave for the Premier League champions, it is also pointed out that there would be ‘very limited time’ for the Serie A giants to sign a replacement.

Speaking earlier this month, Juventus’ sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli explained on the subject of Andrea Cambiaso, “We’ve not received any official bid yet… If it arrives, we will decide what to do… We’re focusing on new signings more than on exits for this window.”

The Old Lady’s head coach, Thiago Motta also weighed in on the subject as he stressed the ‘untransferable’ nature of the club’s star full-back, despite the undoubtable allure of a move to the Etihad Stadium.

“I see him very well… I don’t like talking about the transfer market… Andrea is very well; he will be on the pitch tomorrow. That’s for sure. Untransferable? Yes, I already have asked for players not to be sold. And they kept them,” Motta said on January 17.

From the side of Manchester City, this is largely the outcome that many within the club were briefing to those in the English media when speculation over interest in Cambiaso first emerged, stressing that it was more a deal to explore in the summer as opposed to now.
