Manchester United secured Champions League qualification after beating Liverpool 3-2 in a dramatic Premier League encounter at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Man United went ahead in the sixth minute through Matheus Cunha, whose deflected effort from outside the area beat Freddie Woodman.
Benjamin Sesko doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 14th minute as Woodman’s save from Bruno Fernandes’ header ricocheted off him into the net.
Cody Gakpo registered Liverpool’s first real chance, curling the ball wide of the far post. Fernandes fired agonisingly wide moments later.
Florian Wirtz did well to get into shooting position, but his curling strike was harmless for Senne Lammens.
The United goalkeeper made his first real save in the 41st minute, gathering Ryan Gravenberch’s long-range shot.
Liverpool halved the deficit after the break. United lost possession, allowing Dominic Szoboszlai to run at goal and score into the bottom corner.
The Reds equalised in the 56th minute. Alexis McAllister intercepted Lammens’ pass before knocking the ball to Szoboszlai. He squared to Gakpo to apply the finish.
Lammens made amends for his earlier mistake, producing a brilliant stop on the goalline after a scramble in the United box.
Woodman was immediately called into action at the other end, gathering Casemiro’s header from close range.
Kobbie Mainoo scored the winner in the 76th minute, rifling the ball home from outside the area.
