Manchester United have issued a statement regarding measure to improve the club’s financial sustainability and enhance operational efficiency.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has overseen significant cuts since he arrived at the club, including scrapping the staff Christmas party and reducing funding to the Manchester United Foundation.

United cut around 250 staff last year, which was said to have saved between £40m-45m, and it is has been revealed that another round of up to 200 redundancies is could take place.

Man United have lost more than £300m over the past three seasons and it is therefore felt that further cuts are required.

A statement from Man Utd CEO Omar Berrada reads: “We have a responsibility to put Manchester United in the strongest position to win across our men’s, women’s and academy teams. We are initiating a wide-ranging series of measures which will transform and renew the club.

“Unfortunately, this means announcing further potential redundancies and we deeply regret the impact on those affected colleagues. However, these hard choices are necessary to put the club back on a stable financial footing.

“We have lost money for the past five consecutive years. This cannot continue. Our two main priorities as a club are delivering success on the pitch for our fans and improving our facilities. We cannot invest in these objectives if we are continuously losing money.

“At the end of this process, we will have a more lean, agile and financially sustainable football club, while continuing to provide a world class service to our valuable commercial partners. We will then be in a much stronger position to invest in football success and improved facilities for fans, while remaining compliant with UEFA and Premier League regulations.”

According to The Guardian, United will this week shut the canteen at Old Trafford, which had provided free hot meals and tea and coffee at lunchtime.

Instead of that, fruit will be provided for employees, while only players will now receive lunch each day at the training ground. Staff will be offered soup and bread.

The club spent more than £20m earlier this season sacking Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff and then bringing in Ruben Amorim and his team.

There could be more pain to come, with the club’s disastrous season on the pitch providing costly.

United sit 15th in the table and revenue will be impacted should they fail to qualify for European football next season, which would impact the money received from sponsors.
