FC Barcelona and their captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen find themselves at loggerheads heading into the summer.
The Blaugrana are all set to sign Joan Garcia this week and plan to install him as the first-choice goalkeeper, with Wojciech Szczesny as the backup.
This strategy leaves no place in the team for Ter Stegen, who is unwilling to entertain the prospect of an exit and is prepared to ‘go to war’ with the club.
Barça are open to the idea of terminating the German international’s contract by paying him the next season’s salary.
Latest reports suggest that Ter Stegen will not accept such a proposal and would demand that the full €42 million wages for the three years remaining on his contract be paid for him to agree to a termination.
Amidst the ongoing tussle between Barcelona and Ter Stegen, TeamTalk (h/t ESPN) reports that Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea are keeping a close eye on the developments.

Manchester United are in the market for a new goalkeeper to replace Andre Onana, who has been a liability more often than not during his time at the club.
To that end, Ter Stegen has emerged as a possible option to replace the Cameroonian international.
As for Chelsea, they are also looking to sign a new shot-stopper and have been making moves for AC Milan’s Mike Maignan as their main target. At the same time, however, the Blues are also keeping an eye on Ter Stegen.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray in Turkey are also understood to be in the running to sign Ter Stegen while a few clubs in Saudi Arabia are also keen.
So, it appears that there will be no shortage of suitors for the 33-year-old if he decides to leave Barcelona. However, so far, the club captain has been reluctant to the idea of an exit. Only time will tell whether that changes in the weeks to come.
