Manchester United confirm worst campaign in history

At the start of his journey in England, Ruben Amorim once questioned whether he was managing the "worst Manchester United in history." Now, he can be fairly sure of it — at least in the Premier League era.
That unwanted status was effectively confirmed over the weekend, as United were soundly beaten 4–1 by Newcastle.
Sunday’s result rubber-stamped what many had feared — this is officially United’s worst Premier League campaign to date. And the worrying part? There are still six games to go.
Even if they somehow win all of them — which feels unlikely given recent form — they’d only reach 56 points. That’s still short of their previous low of 58 from the dismal 2021/22 season.
That same season also saw them register just 16 league wins — another unwanted club record. This time around, they’ve only managed 10 so far. So unless something drastic changes, they’re set to match or even fall short of that too.
And it doesn’t end there. The defeat to Newcastle marked their 14th league loss of the season — already equalling last year’s total. Another grim milestone ticked off.
Up front, the picture’s just as bleak. United have scored only 38 goals in 32 matches. To avoid breaking their lowest scoring record in a Premier League season (49 in 2015/16), they’ll need to find another 12 — averaging two goals a game.
With stats like these, United look nailed-on to finish in their lowest position since the Premier League began. Last year’s eighth-place finish was already a low point — right now, they’re languishing in 14th, and there’s little to suggest a turnaround is coming.
