Manchester United are considering offering Rasmus Hojlund as part of a swap deal to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
Ruben Amorim’s side are stepping up their interest in Sesko, with a delegation led by recruitment chief Christopher Vivell holding talks with the German side.
Vivell, who previously worked at Leipzig, is understood to be pushing for the signing of Sesko. The move comes amid Aston Villa’s reluctance to sell Ollie Watkins, who had reportedly been Amorim’s preferred option.
Leipzig are demanding a guaranteed fee of €75m (£64.8m) for Sesko, in addition to add-ons and a sell-on clause. Given the club’s outlay already this summer and the difficulty in offloading unwanted players, United are considering a swap proposal.
Leipzig are one of the sides to have monitored Hojlund’s situation at Old Trafford and Flashscore transfer correspondent Dean Jones has suggested he is an option to be included in the package.
The Denmark international struggled last season, scoring just four league goals, during a difficult second season in England.
He scored during the club’s pre-season win over Bournemouth this week, but Amorim admitted after the fixture that he is unsure ‘what is going to happen until the market is closed’.
Meanwhile, Hojlund has reiterated a desire to fight for his place: “I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay at Manchester United. I want to fight for my spot whatever happens,” he said after the Bournemouth win.
However, Hojlund could be offered to Leipzig in exchange to negotiate a lower fee for Sesko. The 22-year-old joined United from Atalanta for £72m in 2023.
Inter Milan are also monitoring Hojlund’s situation, ahead of a potential move to bring the player back to Serie A.
