Report claims Palmer is ‘primed to leave’ Stamford Bridge this summer

Manchester United have been given a boost in their transfer pursuit of Cole Palmer, with the Chelsea star said to be “primed to leave” Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chelsea have remained adamant that Palmer is not for sale but fresh reports claim the 23-year-old is “increasingly disillusioned” with life in west London.

United have been strongly linked with a move for Palmer, despite him being under contract at Chelsea until 2033 and Liam Rosenior saying in January that he is “very, very happy”.

Chelsea insist Palmer is not for sale but a new report from the Sun claims he is “frustrated” by a change in tactics “which he feels has denied him space on the pitch”.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in the £150million-rated playmaker, who is currently on England duty.

Palmer has a boyhood allegiance to United and it has been claimed that he could look to return “home” to Manchester, though that has not been confirmed by the player himself.

Palmer has been struggling with a groin injury that has limited his playing time this season, and Chelsea face a fight to qualify for the Champions League next season after an alarming run of results under Liam Rosenior.

Chelsea have lost four straight games in all competitions and suffered a 3-0 defeat at Everton before the international break, with Palmer looking frustrated at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The report from the Sun claims “insiders insist Palmer has not downed tools, despite his under-par campaign”.

But it is claimed Palmer would be open to joining United, although their priority positions this summer are midfield and the left-hand side.

United director of football Jason Wilcox was head of the Manchester City academy when Palmer was breaking through there.

Chelsea have sold a number of players under their current ownership, but they have not been forced into a sale for an individual they have not wanted to lose.
