Manchester United are the latest team to join Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign new striker – Chelsea could now move on.
There is a lot going on this week in the aftermath of the first summer transfer window closing on Tuesday night ahead of the Club World Cup.
Chelsea failed to sign Mike Maignan and Jamie Gittens after being in talks, but there are other situations ongoing right now, such as the future of Trevoh Chalobah, who is wanted by Napoli this summer.
There was also a report out earlier in the week detailing the stats that prove Chelsea should have, and still can, sign Maignan from AC Milan this summer simply because he’s a big upgrade.
We haven’t heard much on new Chelsea defender links for a while and we were surprised Chelsea didn’t target one before the Club World Cup. But it looks like a new one is still on the agenda.
A Bola in Portugal is reporting that Benfica defender Tomás Araújo is Chelsea’s priority target for the central defender position. He has a release clause of €80million.

According to Sky Germany, Manchester United have now officially entered the race for Chelsea and Liverpool target Hugo Ekitike having made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt within the last 48 hours. The price tag remains at €100m.
I can’t see Chelsea hanging around much more with this one if that price does not come down, especially the fact that they are now seemingly in a transfer battle to sign him. I can see them moving on now and going to a new target – that could now genuinely happen.
