Despite completing the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, Manchester United may be in the market for another midfielder and have identified AS Roma’s Manu Koné (25) as a potential target, as per a report from Fabrizio Romano. The Premier League side have even made contact with the France international’s camp, the journalist adds.
With France now eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, attention will now turn towards Koné’s future at club level. He is being heavily linked with a departure from Roma, who must raise funds in player sales this summer.
Roma would ideally like to keep Koné, however, Gian Piero Gasperini has said that it is “undeniable that Roma have to balance the books”, when specifically drawn on the future of the France international. He added, “I hope that reaching the Champions League will be enough, but it is clear that balance sheets are essential for clubs, and there will be more clarity in the coming weeks.”
It was reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport earlier this week that Manchester United were readying a bid for the former Toulouse FC midfielder. L’Équipe, meanwhile, have reported interest from Arsenal. But it is Manchester United who are now taking concrete steps by reaching out to his entourage, Romano understands. Roma value their midfielder at €55m.
