Manchester United have been making discreet enquiries to understand the situation of Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams ahead of the summer transfer window, according to the BBC.
Man United want another left-back at the Old Trafford club next season, and the ‘incredible’ Williams is on their radar.
The Red Devils are not the only club keen on the 25-year-old Wales international, with Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Everton also keen.
Forest want to hold on to Williams and have opened talks with him over a new contract extension.
However, a move away could appeal to the former Liverpool star, with the likes of Man United offering him the opportunity to play in the Champions League again.
The Red Devils want a quality cover and competition for Luke Shaw, and the Welshman fits the bill.
Williams has played 51 games across all competitions this term, weighing in with two goals and four assists.
He can also play at right-back, and his versatility is why Man United and others are plotting a summer swoop.
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of the Forest star, and the Red Devils could do with such a player in their defence.
“When he was warming up you could see when he cuts inside on his left foot – he is incredible,” the German once said of Williams.
“He can really finish with it. I was expecting one or two of these situations. He can play at right-back, right wing-back and on the left. He can play all these things but we had to make a few decisions. And in this system the right wing is maybe not his top, top position but he can play it. Then as a full-back he played really well.”
Dribbling, tackling, intercepting and blocking the ball are some of his major strengths, and a move to the Theatre of Dreams could be on the cards in the summer if talks keep progressing.
