Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is a “huge admirer” of Bryan Mbeumo, as per reports.
Amorim has been forced to frequently experiment with his attack due to the misfiring United forwards.
Marcus Rashford got the nod to lead the line in the Portuguese head coach’s first game in charge of United at Ipswich Town. The Englishman has seemingly fallen out of favour, having not featured for his boyhood club since mid-December.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have also been handed many opportunities to show their talents as the side’s striker but both have been underwhelming, to say the least.
Amid his side’s goalscoring woes, Amorim’s attention has been caught by Mbeumo, who is enjoying a prolific season at Brentford.
According to the Daily Star, Amorim believes the 25-year-old would “fit into his long term plans” at United.
Accordingly, he is keeping “close tabs” on the Cameroon international, who has an impressive 13 goals to his name in 20 Premier League appearances this season.
In particular, Amorim is believed to be a fan of the Brentford man’s versatility as well as his work ethic. He has played as a striker, number 10, right-winger, and right-sided midfielder under Thomas Frank this campaign.
It is sensationally added that United are “plotting a shock raid” for the talented forward and will consider making a £40million bid in an attempt to find an agreement with Brentford.
Further, it is thought that Mbeumo would find the idea of moving to Old Trafford appealing and could also “triple his wages to £150,000-a-week.”
However, Frank has insisted that his star player is going nowhere in January. Accordingly, United are ready to wait until the end of the season to test Brentford’s resolve.
Their pursuit may rely on sales due to financial fair play concerns. Alejandro Garnacho, Rashford, and Zirkzee have all been linked with moves away.
