Manchester United fans were excited to see Sekou Kone handed his first start for the U21s this week, but it was sadly cut short by injury.
The transfer deadline day arrival has been patiently waiting for minutes as he settles into a new environment.
Kone has been eased into academy action but staff members at the club have high hopes for the Mali starlet.
He started against Huddersfield Town in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night and played well until an ankle injury forced him off the pitch after 42 minutes.
The scoreline was 1-1 at the time, but United conceded three more goals in the second half without Kone in midfield protecting the defence like he did in the first half.
He held his own against a senior side despite being 18 and one of the youngest players on the pitch. While this bodes well for his chances of breaking into the senior team at United, it’s a shame he couldn’t carry on his strong performance into the second half.
As a result of losing 4-1 to Huddersfield Town, United are out of the EFL Trophy.

The young midfielder has since posted on Instagram without revealing the specific details of his injury.
Kone wrote: “The risk of the job so we assume all the consequences it is God who decides everything.”
The early signs did not look good as Kone left Huddersfield’s stadium on Tuesday night.
After hobbling off the pitch, Kone was spotted on crutches and wearing a protective boot.
All we can hope for is the best but it feels a bit like watching Leny Yoro come off injured against Arsenal during pre-season. The French centre-back has yet to make his competitive debut as a result.
Hopefully, it’s a speedy recovery for Kone.
