Manu Koné (25) has established himself as an important figure in the France national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The AS Roma midfielder started and impressed against Morocco in the quarter-finals. He has benefitted from an injury sustained by Aurélien Tchouaméni and, despite his strong performances in the absence of the Real Madrid midfielder, he could drop back to the bench for the game against Spain on Tuesday.
His future at club level remains uncertain. Whilst a key player at Roma, the Serie A side are needing to balance their books this summer. Despite qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League, some key players could make way.
Roma would ideally like to keep Koné, however, Gian Piero Gasperini has said that it is “undeniable that Roma have to balance the books”, when specifically drawn on the future of the France international. He added, “I hope that reaching the Champions League will be enough, but it is clear that balance sheets are essential for clubs, and there will be more clarity in the coming weeks.”
It comes amid interest from Manchester United, according to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport. The midfielder is also a target for Arsenal, L’Équipe understands. Meanwhile, La Corriere dello Sport add that Roma value Koné at €55m.
