Ryan Giggs has backed Cole Palmer to succeed at Manchester United if he joins the Red Devils, amid growing speculation regarding the Chelsea star’s future.
The Manchester United legend believes the 23-year-old playmaker has the profile required to thrive at Old Trafford.
With United continuously linked to the England international as they look to bolster their attacking options under Michael Carrick, Giggs suggests that Palmer’s arrival would provide much-needed creative support for the squad’s existing stars.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel, Giggs was full of praise for the Wythenshawe-born attacker.
Giggs emphasised that Palmer’s local roots and natural ability make him an ideal candidate for a high-pressure environment like Manchester United.
“Yeah, he would [fit the bill], Manchester lad,” Giggs remarked when asked about the potential transfer.
“Where would he play with obviously Bruno at No10? He could play off the right possibly.
“But yeah, we talk about [Rasmus] Hojlund and Sesko, it’s only really Bruno who is creating things time and time again.
“What if Bruno has a bad day or he’s injured?
“You need three or four players in your squad who can make things happen for these players to put the ball in the back of the net.”
Despite the endorsement from a club icon, a move to Manchester appears unlikely in the immediate future.
Palmer, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City in 2023, recently addressed the rumors in an interview with The Guardian, laughing off suggestions of a summer exit.
“Everyone just talks.
“When I see it I just laugh. Obviously Manchester is my home. All my family are there, but I don’t miss it.
“Maybe I’ll miss it if I don’t go for three months or something. But then when I get home I think there’s nothing there for me anyway.”
