Darwin Nunez has been in the headlines for the uncertainty regarding his future. Many top clubs have been interested in signing him, and a recent report from Fichajes has stated that Liverpool’s rivals Manchester United have shortlisted him as one of the players to sign in the transfer window.
United are looking to strengthen their attacking unit under their new manager, Ruben Amorim. They want to perform better in the second half of the ongoing season. They are 12th in the points table with 26 points in 21 matches. The Red Devils have managed to win seven matches, draw five, and lose nine games.
Amorim wants to be active in this transfer window and wants profiles who can perform in his system effectively. He wants a striker who is physical, possesses the pace, and can score goals. So he is scoring the market for a quality number nine. The future of Marcus Rashford at Manchester United is not certain, and he might go on to leave in this window. Hence, Amorim looks to have shortlisted Nunez as the one to replace the departing Rashford.

The Red Devils were interested in the Uruguayan even before he moved to Anfield. The fans of Liverpool wanted more from Nunez, but he has not been able to score consistently and be clinical in front of the goal. Nunez has scored two goals in 15 matches so far in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. Overall, Darwin Nunez’s goals scored per 90 minutes is 0.24. Moreover, Darwin Nunez’s total G/A (goals + assists) is four for this season. His goal involvement equates to 0.48 per 90 minutes.

However, United are looking at Nunez as the one who can really ignite his career at Old Trafford and also help the club with his skills. Amorim likes him and wants Nunez as the ideal man to lead their attack. He has a contract with the club till 2028, and hence United will have to pay a good amount in order to sign him from Anfield. It remains to be seen if Nunez does move to the Old Trafford.
