It is well known that Manchester United are prioritising improving the attack in the summer after a season in which the Red Devils consistently failed to find the back of the net.
Matheus Cunha’s signing is now official, and the Brazilian is likely to occupy one of the attacking midfield positions alongside a central striker.
The club also has eyes on adding another attacking midfielder to their squad, with recent links suggesting Bryan Mbeumo seems to be the favoured option.
Adding a striker will be key and INEOS have a B list of targets to comb through now that their Liam Delap chase has ended in failure.
Jean-Philippe Mateta is one of the names and once these three signings are completed, not much in terms of money will be left for the co-owners to utilise.
Which is why Sky Sports have claimed that even though Ruben Amorim wants a new midfielder, the club might delve into the loan market to find a solution.
Christian Eriksen has departed and Casemiro’s future also remains up in the air, not to mention the circus surrounding Bruno Fernandes.
The head coach needs quality in the middle of the park and the last time, they secured a midfielder on loan, it did not quite work out as both Sofyan Amrabat, and Marcel Sabitzer will attest to.
The report also mentioned that a centre-back is also on the agenda, even the report does not mention whether the club will target a right-sided centre-back or a left-sided one.
Lisandro Martinez is likely to be out until the year end, while his position might also be altered. Ayden Heaven is the only natural solution while Leny Yoro has also excelled there.
“Priorities for United are striker, No 10 and a winger, and at least one of those is imminent in Matheus Cunha. Missing out on the Champions League was a major blow though and they are therefore set to miss out on Liam Delap to Chelsea.
“They do have other strikers on their radar, such as Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, while the winger targets include Antoine Semenyo, Bryan Mbeumo and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
“They are also understood to want a No 8 on loan and a centre-back. Other positions could be strengthened if players leave, with doubts over many, including Casemiro and Andre Onana.”
Not to forget that the Portuguese tactician also wants a new No.1 in goal. Whether so much business can be conducted remains to be seen.
But the season gone by has shown, Amorim needs all the help he can get if he is to steer the ship clear of danger in his first full season in charge.
