Manchester United winger Bryan Mbeumo will not compete at next summer’s World Cup after Cameroon suffered a devastating defeat in World Cup qualification.
Cameroon are out of Africa’s World Cup qualifying after losing to DR Congo, courtesy of a 91st-minute winner from former Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba.
The loss is a major blow to The Indomitable Lions, who are ranked six places above DR Congo in FIFA’s world rankings.
Mbeumo started the defeat, alongside out-on-loan Manchester United teammate Andre Onana and Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba.
DR Congo will now face Nigeria this weekend in the CAF playoff final. The Warriors of the Equator are bidding to reach the World Cup for the first time in 52 years.
Cameroon will now aim to regroup ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which begins next week. Cameroon face Gabon in their opening fixture of the tournament on December 24th.
