Michael Carrick without three first-team players as he bids to continue Old Trafford resurgence

Manchester United will remain without three players when they host Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Patrick Dorgu, Matthijs de Ligt and Mason Mount are all sidelined through injury as Michael Carrick bids to field a side that can deliver his fourth win on the bounce as interim head coach.

Carrick is expected to make few changes to the side who beat Fulham 3-2 in a dramatic thriller last time out, in the hope of extending their one-point lead over fifth-place Chelsea and cutting the five-point gap to Aston Villa in third.

Mount had been expected to return in time for the fixture against Tottenham after he injured himself in training last week, but Carrick described him as “not too far away” in Thursday’s pre-match press conference.

Senne Lammens remains United’s first-choice goalkeeper and the back four will likely remain intact, despite Harry Maguire conceding a late penalty last week which set up a frantic finish.

Casemiro, who headed home Bruno Fernandes’ corner for the opener against Fulham, will likely pair up with the Carrick-preferred Kobbie Mainoo in the centre of midfield.

Elsewhere, skipper Fernandes continues to be United’s talisman, having registered more assists than any other Premier League player so far this season, and will be supported on his right by Amad Diallo.

Matheus Cunha will most likely deputise for Dorgu again, having proven himself to be a valuable option on the left flank after scoring in successive games.

With Benjamin Sesko coming off the bench and scoring the last-minute winner against Fulham, the Slovenian could find himself bumped up the attacking pecking order.

However, Bryan Mbeumo feels nailed on to start again, despite a goalless performance against the Cottagers.

Predicted Man Utd XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Amad, Fernandes, Cunha; Mbeumo

Injured: Dorgu, Mount, De Ligt
