Joshua Zirkzee is considered “the dream candidate” for PSV, according to the Eindhovens Dagblad. The reigning Dutch champions are looking for a replacement for the injured Alassane Pléa.
Pléa suffered a serious knee injury against FC Twente and won’t be available again until 2026. So now, PSV need a new striker who can compete with the fit-again Ricardo Pepi. Numerous names have been considered in recent days, but according to the Eindhovens Dagblad, Zirkzee is considered the main target. “It almost couldn’t be otherwise,” they say.
It’s unclear whether PSV have already contacted Manchester United. Apparently, “it’s clear that it will happen and that a transfer will likely be extremely complicated.” Moreover, a transfer for the 24-year-old attacker could be too expensive.
“Even if Manchester United were to decide to temporarily loan Zirkzee to another club, PSV would likely struggle to make that happen financially.”
Zirkzee is reportedly attracting interest from several clubs, including Napoli. According to the latest reports, Manchester United are unwilling to let the six-time Oranje international leave. Zirkzee is currently being considered as a cover for summer signing Benjamin Sesko. That situation could change towards Deadline Day, as PSV hope to lure Zirkzee with plenty of playing time and Champions League football.
“In Eindhoven, it’s clear that PSV are taking their time to make the right choice,” writes the Eindhovens Dagblad. “The club is exploring several options and will hope that one of the top candidates surprisingly prove viable. In Zirkzee’s case, that would absolutely be the case, but PSV certainly has a lot to offer him in the run-up to next year’s World Cup.”
