Casemiro will leave Manchester United when his contract expires this summer with an announcement on his exit made earlier in the campaign.

The 34-year-old will leave after four seasons at Old Trafford, despite an important role in the club'sChampions League qualification.

The veteran's departure will leave a big void to fill in central midfield and Carrick has admitted that will be a challenge for the club in the transfer market.

"Casemiro has been a very good player for a long time. We appreciate everything he has done and especially since I have been here he's been excellent," Carrick said toSky Sports.

"Part of football is that things come to an end and you have to evolve and adapt. There's been big players over the time I've been here that have left the club. It's a challenge but we thank him for everything he's done."

Casemiro addressed the Old Trafford crowd after the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, before taking to social media to thank the fans for their support during an 'unforgettable' time with the Red Devils
