Manuel Neuer returned to training on Monday, one day before Germany depart for the World Cup in the United States. The Bayern Munich goalkeeper has been recovering from a calf injury sustained last month.

According to BuLi News, the 40-year-old started with light jogging, progressed to sprints, then joined full goalkeeper training on the pitch.

He had sat out Germany’s 4-0 friendly win over Finland on Sunday. In his absence, Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann started in goal.

Neuer is confirmed as Germany’s first-choice for the tournament, and the hope is that he will be available for the final warm-up against co-hosts the United States on Saturday.

Germany open their World Cup campaign against Curaçao on June 14.
