During the winter transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain sought to move on from players who were no longer part of their plans, and Marco Asensio was among them.
Since November 30, Asensio’s role has been reduced. The former Real Madrid forward has fallen out of the starting lineup and has only made a handful of substitute appearances.
On Sunday, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Aston Villa have agreed to take Asensio on loan from PSG. This move won’t affect Marcus Rashford’s potential loan to Villa, which could include an option to buy.
PSG are content with the short-term solution for Asensio, as the English side will cover his full wages. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Aston Villa will cover Asensio’s entire salary until June, with PSG agreeing to a straight loan that doesn’t include a buy option.

Aston Villa announced Asensio’s arrival on Monday and the former Real Madrid standout explained why he opted to join the Premier League side over other interested clubs.
“I’m really happy to join Aston Villa,” Asensio told the club’s official website. “I’m looking forward to being able to contribute to this club, to add to this team with eagerness and with lots of excitement. Unai is a coach that I’ve known for a while.
“He’s had a great career, he’s a top coach, he’s been key in me being able to come here because of his idea of how he wants to play football. I love it, it suits me perfectly and he’s a really important person as to why I’m here right now.”
