Lazio coach Marco Baroni closed the door on the departure of Loum Tchaouna amidst concrete interest from PSV Eindhoven.
The Dutch champions have launched a late-January onslaught to sign the Frenchman. While the transfer window in Italy closed on Monday night, it remains open in the Netherlands till Tuesday evening, thus giving Eredivisie clubs an extra breather to finalize their operations.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, PSV have submitted an offer of €10 million plus bonuses to sign the 21-year-old winger. However, Lazio and Tchaouna decided to turn down the approach, as they agreed to prolong their collaboration.
The source reveals that Baroni played an integral role in the decision, as he confirmed his desire to maintain the player’s services for the second half of the season, which gave Tchaouna added motivation and a further conviction to stay at Formello.
The France U21 starlet made a name for himself in Serie A last season with Salernitana before moving to the Italian capital side last summer following the Granata’s relegation on a deal worth €10 million.
The youngster has yet to establish himself as a regular starter at Lazio, with the majority of his 24 appearances this season coming off the bench. But while Gustav Isaksen remains Baroni’s first choice for the right-wing role, the manager has often praised Tchaouna’s talent, insisting he has a big future ahead of him.
