Marco Palestra: Why Manchester City have a shot at signing wing-back | OneFootball

Serie A side Atalanta are grappling with the possibility of losing Marco Palestra and Manchester City still have a chance of signing him.

Inter have already made an initial offer to sign the wing-back but that has been pushed back by La Dea. Now, competition for the player has only grown.

Tuttomercatoweb report that even if Newcastle United are interested in Palestra, he won’t be keen on joining them. He would be much more keen on joining Manchester City, who will offer him a shot at silverware and a chance to play in Europe next season.

The player would prefer Inter over Newcastle but if Manchester City come forward for him, he would reject everyone to join them. As things stand, Atalanta demand over €50 million to sell the player and have rejected Inter’s offer to include Matteo Cocchi in the deal. 

This has put pressure on Inter to make a bold offer but it also gives Manchester City a chance at a move.

Atalanta aiming for auction

Increasingly, it feels like Atalanta are using English interest to raise their asking price for Palestra. That is nothing new for them but this is likely going to annoy Inter, who can go further away from the deal.

At the same time, Manchester City haven’t held any talks for the player and this gives Inter the opportunity to make quick progress.
