Mario Gila is close to joining Milan after reaching full agreement on personal terms, with Lazio and the Rossoneri now negotiating the fee. Fabrizio Romano reports that the move is in a decisive phase and could be completed in the coming days.
The 25-year-old Catalan defender has approved Milan's project and would sign a contract to 2031. Attention has shifted to club-to-club talks, with Lazio looking to maximise the sale of one of their most coveted players.
Milan's intervention has altered the race. Napoli had led the chase for weeks, but financial differences with Lazio stalled progress and opened the door for the Lombardy club.
Milan have improved both their package to the player and their bid to Lazio, with an offer near €30m including add-ons, a figure that brings a final agreement closer.
Milan's hierarchy view the Spain international as central to a summer rebuild at the back, impressed by his Serie A development and ability to play out from defence.
Real Madrid retain 50% of a future sale, which would amount to about €15m from this move, so the operation would also impact their accounts.
A product of La Fábrica, Gila made two senior appearances before joining Lazio in 2022, and has since emerged as one of the most highly rated Spanish centre-backs in Serie A. Barring an unexpected twist in club discussions, San Siro appears his likely next stop.
