On a historic night in Budapest, PSG clinched a second straight Champions League as captain Marquinhos cast the jump from one to two as the step from history to legend. The celebrations told the story.
According to L'Équipe, emotion flooded the Puskás Aréna as Désiré Doué crumpled, Pacho wept and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia launched into Ousmane Dembélé’s arms. PSG had lived on the edge for more than two hours.
The medal ceremony followed, Luis Enrique first up, before players draped themselves in national colours, from Nuno Mendes to Achraf Hakimi, Kvaratskhelia and Pacho.
Nasser al-Khelaïfi embraced Enrique and Marquinhos, then the captain raised the trophy amid confetti. Enrique was hoisted by staff as Dembélé and Hakimi sprinted towards around 20,000 Paris fans and a spontaneous squad photo formed.
João Neves, Mendes, Gonçalo Ramos and Vitinha posed in back2back shirts. Doué, already behind sunglasses, tapped out replies to early messages as the end sang.
In the dressing room Al-Khelaïfi and Marquinhos addressed the group before families joined. Neves said they felt a true team, proud of staff and hierarchy, and that the party had only just begun in Paris.
Marquinhos reflected that moving from zero Champions Leagues to two felt legendary after a long, difficult campaign against elite opponents. He felt PSG had earned this crown with their run, and the night was set to run long.
