Olympique de Marseille are going through a difficult summer transfer window. Forced to make do with minimal financial resources, the sporting management of the Southern French club are struggling to persuade their transfer targets to join them.

Take Olivier Ntcham (30), for example, who played for OM in 2021 (six appearances) and whom the side that finished fifth in last season’s Ligue 1 were reportedly considering bringing back to the Canabière, according to information from Foot Mercato.

Ultimately, however, the move did not go ahead, as the two parties were unable to reach an agreement. A free agent since leaving Samsunspor in early July, the Cameroonian international (16 caps, one goal) is therefore unlikely to become Marseille’s first signing of the transfer window.

The situation inevitably raises questions, with just two weeks to go before the league resumes and with OM having already recorded €42.5m in sales and made significant savings on the wages of Mason Greenwood (24) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (37).
