On the eve of Marseille’s Ligue 1 meeting with Lorient at the Vélodrome (Friday, 20:45), Roberto De Zerbi has a full squad at his disposal but still faces a decision on who starts between the sticks for OM on Friday evening
Gerónimo Rulli returned late from international duty with Argentina – who lost 1-0 away to Ecuador on Tuesday night. The 32-year-old did not feature in the match, but the long journey has left his participation in doubt. “De Lange could play tomorrow. He’s a reliable keeper and an important player for us. Rulli had a fantastic season last year. He’s started well, but there are a lot of matches to play and I haven’t made up my mind yet,” De Zerbi admitted in Thursday’s press conference, transcribed by l‘Équipe. Fellow Argentine international Leonardo Balerdi also featured for Argentina on Tuesday night, and will be returning to Marseille after several difficult weeks for OM. “Balerdi had a very difficult start to the season, but he remains the indisputable captain and a very important player,” insisted De Zerbi. “When my players are in difficulty, I try to be even closer to them. He makes mistakes, but an OM supporter must be proud to have Balerdi,” said De Zerbi.“He will be on the bench when he has to be, and play when he deserves it – but he is a decisive player for us.”Dutchman Jeffrey de Lange is on standby to deputise, but hasn’t started for OM since starting in the Coupe de France against Lille last January.
