Marseille ‘join’ rivals Lyon in race to sign Himad Abdelli

Marseille have joined rivals Lyon in the pursuit of Angers playmaker Himad Abdelli, 26, according to Foot Mercato.

OL are targeting a €1m deal, helped by the fact his contract expires at the end of the season, while OM have now expressed interest. The choice of destination will rest with the player.

Abdelli impressed last season as Alexandre Dujeux’s Angers comfortably steered clear of relegation.

He missed the start of this campaign through injury, but since returning he has been influential. He has two goals in 13 games, a tally that does not fully reflect his attacking contribution.

His form has been recognised by Algeria, who have called him into their Africa Cup of Nations squad after Houssem Aouar withdrew through injury. With AFCON ongoing, interest around the midfielder is increasing.
