Mason Greenwood (24) looks set to depart Olmypique de Marseile after two seasons at the club. The Ligue 1 club are open to offers this summer, as confirmed by Grégory Lorenzi.
Lorenzi was confirmed as OM’s new sporting director on Thursday and his arrival was marked by an interview in L’Équipe, during which he outlined the project and his approach to it. He also spoke about the future of Greenwood, heavily linked with a move away from the club. Reports in Italy suggest thattalks are advancing with AS Roma.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Greenwood’s father-agent has already approved the destination, while new Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini is prepared to personally contact the England-born forward in order to present his sporting project. Marseille are said to value the forward at around €55m.
In his interview with L’Équipe, Lorenzi outlined Marseille’s stance with regards to a summer move. “He is one of the players that we are really thinking about (with regards to their future). If an opportunity presents itself, naturally, we will think about it. But there is the club’s position [and] that of the player. It is also up to us to manage internally to find the best possible solution for all parties,” said Lorenzi.
Talks of an exit come amid reports that OM need to raise funds in player sales in order to stave off any potential sanctions from the DNCG and UEFA.
