It has already been confirmed that Medhi Benatia will leave Olympique de Marseille at the end of the season. He initially departed back in February, alongside Roberto De Zerbi, who left OM by mutual consent. However, the Moroccan was convinced to return to the club in order to see out the rest of the campaign.
Soon after, however, Frank McCourt, Marseille’s owner, confirmed that Benatia would depart upon the conclusion of the Ligue 1 campaign. As per a report from L’Équipe, he will be replaced by Grégory Lorenzi, whose upcoming departure from Ligue 1 rivals Stade Brestois has already been confirmed.
Benatia is looking for a new project and one may have presented itself. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, there is interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad. RMC Sport have now added that the current OM sporting director is the favourite for the role, in the event of Ramon Planes’ departure. Benatia, RMC Sport add, is receptive to Al-Ittihad’s interest.
