Leicester City starlet Jeremy Monga can be a match-winner versus local rivals Coventry City

Leicester City starlet Jeremy Monga has instantly become a fan-favourite at the King Power Stadium this season despite his bit-part role in Marti Cifuentes' squad - but the time may have finally come for head coach Marti Cifuentes to thrust the teenager firmly into the limelight.

The 16-year-old has looked lively in his cameo appearances for the Foxes so far this season, and with a big match on the horizon, more game-time should potentially be coming his way.

Despite not receiving a wealth of game-time, Monga has made a big impact in the cameos he has made from off the bench.

The tricky winger made an instant impact to kick off the season, netting an equaliser against Preston North End in mid-August, and he provided a key assist for Ricardo Pereira against Birmingham City to make it 2-0 on the night, which helped to give the Foxes all three points.

The presence of Stephy Mavididi has unsurprisingly made it a difficult task for Monga to be given the nod over the 27-year-old.

However, with the ex-Arsenal man struggling to find form in the early stages of the season, Monga has been patiently waiting for a regular starting role - and he could well be utilised as a secret weapon for their next fixture against rivals Coventry City.

Monga made his first league start for Leicester in their 1-0 away win at Charlton Athletic as Mavididi picked up a slight knock which ruled him out for temporarily.

The teenager has made a fast start to life for the Foxes this season, with fans calling for their starlet to be handed more regular game-time under Cifuentes - especially after coming off the bench to make an impact against Preston.

At The Valley, Monga lasted 73 minutes, completed one of his two dribble attempts but didn't have any shots against the Addicks before being replaced by Silko Thomas, but Nathan Jones' side can be a tough unit to break down - alas, it took a worldie from Abdul Fatawu to get all three points on the board.

Leicester's attack has looked decent in the early stages, but they haven't exactly taken the Championship by storm by any means after facing relegation last year.

Ghanaian international Abdul Fatwau has looked Leicester's brightest spark with two goals and one assist to his name, but as for Mavididi, he hasn't been able to hit the ground running.

With that, the introduction of Monga in a starting role, partnered with Fatawu in the wide areas could be a recipe for success for Cifuentes with Coventry City on the horizon.

Monga's impressive form, raw talent, and tricky nature has been a breath of fresh air for the Leicester faithful, who will hope to keep him at the club for time to come.

With the winger being so young, it is essential that Cifuentes is careful with the 16-year-old when it comes to selection, but Monga has certainly proved, as the saying goes, that if you're old enough, you're good enough.

With Coventry City being next on the fixture list for the Foxes on Saturday lunchtime, it will for sure be a tough test for both sides, who currently occupy two of the four play-off spots - it's also a hotly-contested local derby to boot.

Leicester will look to keep up their 100 per cent home record this season, and Monga could well be a key contributor towards achieving it - he's also a youngster that originally played for the Sky Blues too at youth level, before moving down the M69 to his hometown club when he was eight years old.

And with Mavididi's contributions leaving a lot to be desired so far this season, Monga's challenge for a regular starting spot could be imminent.

For someone of his age to have such a high ceiling, his contributions in front of goal can be the difference for Leicester as they search for an immediate return back to the Premier League. In turn, their potential promotion would give the club the best chance of retaining his services past the end of this season.

If it doesn't happen against Coventry, and Cifuentes opts to stick with Mavididi on the left-wing, it shouldn't be long before the 16-year-old is handed more regular starts in the Championship, as it will be hard to ignore if he is to keep producing high-performance levels on a consistent basis.

However, there's no better time to make a bold call than against your bitterest of rivals, and Cifuentes should be seriously considering giving Monga that first home league start for Leicester - even if it is the talented Milan van Ewijk he would be coming up against in the Coventry defence.
