Mascherano leaves Inter Miami job for personal reasons | OneFootball

Javier Mascherano has resigned as Inter Miami head coach for personal reasons, the club said in a statement. His decision ends a brief but highly successful spell in Major League Soccer.

Mascherano cited personal reasons and thanked the club, players and supporters for their backing. He will always cherish the memory of Inter Miami’s first star, a nod to the MLS Cup triumph, and he wished the institution well for the future.

Under his guidance, Inter Miami won the MLS Cup and the Eastern Conference title. The team also set a record of 101 goals in a season.

Internationally, Inter Miami reached decisive stages of the Club World Cup. The club also became the first MLS side to defeat a European opponent in an official competition.

Guillermo Hoyos will take interim charge following Mascherano’s departure. Alberto Marrero will assume duties as sporting director.
