Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta has said he is ‘a little bit upset’ despite scoring a hat-trick in the club’s 3-3 draw with Bournemouth.

Bournemouth made a brilliant start to the game and led 2-0 at half-time, courtesy of a double from teenager Eli Junior Kroupi.

In an enthralling encounter, Palace eventually snatched a 97th-minute equaliser in arguably the game of the Premier League season so far, as Mateta cooly converted from the penalty spot.

The Frenchman’s brace had earlier helped the Eagles recover from two goals down to level, but Ryan Christie’s 89th-minute goal looked to have won it for Bournemouth.

There was a late twist as Marc Guehi won the home side a penalty, and Mateta converted to earn a point.

However, in further late drama, the 28-year-old blasted a simple chance to win the game over the bar from close range. Despite his match ball, Mateta admitted the miss was haunting him.

“I want to win every game. I had the ball to win this game,” he reflected to Final Score.

“It’s up to me to score that goal and I didn’t score. That’s why I’m like that [unhappy]. I need to cool down, now I am a little bit upset.

“For the fans it was a fantastic game, for us we always want three points. We should win, we take the point.”
