Mateu Alemany is driving Atlético Madrid’s January pursuit of Kang-in Lee after clearing space in Diego Simeone’s squad. The South Korean has been identified as a priority addition for the winter window.
AS reports that Alemany attended Paris Saint-Germain v Lille in Paris to move matters forward for the player he knows from Valencia. The report adds there is a good understanding between the parties and Kang-in would welcome a LaLiga EA Sports return, having featured in 21 matches under Luis Enrique this season for 550 minutes.
Atlético have strengthened their budget after moving on two failed signings, Conor Gallagher and Giacomo Raspadori, for significant fees. Simeone wants a midfielder capable of operating across the attack, especially following those departures.
A deal for Kang-in has not been defined as a permanent transfer or a loan. The operation is valued at around 40 million euros, and Atlético’s improved finances mean the fee would not be an obstacle.
Kang-in left Valencia in summer 2021 without a fee after losing his squad number to Marcos André, joining Mallorca. Mallorca later sold him to Paris Saint-Germain for more than 20 million euros.
