Manchester United secured three Premier League wins on the trot when they overpowered Brighton and Hove Albion 4-2 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

It was far from an easy fixture, with the Seagulls dominating in recent seasons. But not this time, as Matheus Cunha got the ball rolling with his first goal for his new club.

Subsequent goals from Casemiro and Bryan Mbeumo proved to be enough, but supporters and teammates were delighted for the former Wolves man, who had been struggling due to the lack of goals since his signing.

He had been working hard behind the scenes, with The Sun revealing how club captain Bruno Fernandes has taken him under his wing.

Fernandes has taken Matheus Cunha under his wing

The Portuguese has been spending considerable time with the Brazilian, with the pair spotted doing extra sessions, which includes set-piece training.

And Fernandes has helped the 26-year-old deal with his frustrations with the goal drought and the injury he had suffered in the recent past.

“Bruno Fernandes has taken Matheus Cunha under his wing to help him realise his potential to become a Manchester United star.

“And United sources say Fernandes has been incremental to helping Cunha handle the pressures of being a United player. The pair’s Portuguese-speaking bond has evolved into a strong mentorship.

Extra sessions together paying off

“Like much of the squad, Cunha looks up to Bruno as a model professional. Insiders noted that Fernandes has taken the former Wolves forward, who joined for £62.5m in June, under his wing.

“The duo spend hours doing extra sessions, while working on free kicks and set pieces – and their connection is starting to pay off.

“Sources added that Bruno’s guidance has helped Cunha improve his emotional control and confidence, especially during recent frustrations with injury.”

Hopefully, this bond will pay off in the games to come as the Red Devils look to continue their impressive resurgence and keep climbing up the Premier League table.
