Manchester United star Matheus Cunha has made a rallying promise as he addressed the club’s struggles over the past few years.
Cunha hasn’t looked one bit out of place since he joined United last summer from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £62.5m.
His big goals arguably kept Wolves in the Premier League last season. His importance has only been underscored by the side’s struggles this season, with a drop to the Championship now looking increasingly inevitable.
The Brazilian was often deployed as one of the 10s by now-sacked head coach Ruben Amorim. It is a role he excelled in, often catching the eye with his incredible ball-carrying and ability to beat the opposition press. Interim boss Michael Carrick has mostly used Carrick on the left side of the attack.
Cunha continues to impress and with every game, demonstrates why he was a shrewd acquisition.
The 26-year-old has made 26 Premier League appearances for United this season, contributing six goals and three assists. Carrick has repeatedly spoken of Cunha’s importance to the team and especially his selfless nature.
The player spoke to to CazeTV and was asked about United’s struggles. His answer was impeccable.
Cunha told the news outlet, “I never think about the negative side of Manchester United.”
“For me, it’s an extraordinary club.”
He added, “I joke that the giant is sleeping, and that we are going to wake it up.”
United are still waiting for a 21st Premier League title, having not won one since the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson retired from football management in 2013.
The years since have been defined by false dawns, exorbitant spending on underperforming signings, and managerial upheavals that have failed to replicate even a fraction of the success achieved under Sir Alex.
That Cunha is hell-bent on bringing the glory days back will certainly please fans.
