Sunderland have been linked with Roma winger Matias Soule, with Fulham also in the frame, as the Black Cats pursue their first addition of the summer and gear up for a first venture into the Europa League.
According to Sunderland Echo, tentative enquiries have been made and his representative, Martin Ariel Guastadisegno, has travelled to England to meet Sunderland and Fulham to discuss a possible deal. Roma are thought to want around £30m for the 23-year-old.
Born in Argentina, Soule joined Juventus in 2020 after time with Kimberley and Velez Sarsfield, and made his senior debut in November 2021. He totalled 21 first-team appearances for Juve and shone on loan at Frosinone in 2023/24, scoring 11 and assisting three. He then moved to Roma in a reported £24m switch and has 12 goals and 13 assists from 81 outings across the last two seasons.
At international level he has not yet been capped by Argentina’s seniors. He was called up in September 2024 but stayed on the bench in a 3-0 win over Chile, when Alexis Mac Allister, Julian Alvarez and Paulo Dybala scored. He made the initial 55-man list for this summer’s World Cup finals, but missed the final 25-man cut in May.
Soule signed a five-year contract on joining Roma in 2024, so three years remain on that deal. Asked about his future after returning for pre-season, he said, “Will I stay? Honestly, I don’t know.”
