Matthias Jaissle could swap Al-Ahli for Al-Hilal, a move that would ignite the Saudi football scene if it materialises.

According to Goal.com, the German coach is entering the final year of his Al-Ahli deal amid uncertainty and European interest. Talks in Portugal with a club delegation of Ahmed Al-Shanqiti, Khaled Tash and Hazem Al-Hazmi did not produce a renewal.

The dispute centres on penalty clauses rather than salary, and Jaissle did not seek a pay rise. He believes the proposed terms do not protect his rights after building a strong team and delivering two continental titles.

Negotiations ended without agreement, leaving open the possibility of a departure at the end of the current season, or sooner if a suitable offer arrives.

The standout suggestion is that Al-Hilal could be his most likely domestic destination should he pursue another role in the Roshn League. He also has options in Europe, while Al-Hilal are intent on sustaining their project with coaches already familiar with the competition.

For now it remains speculative, yet any switch from Al-Ahli to their fierce rivals would be among the Saudi league’s most contentious, given Jaissle’s standing with the club’s supporters.
