Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri is keen to make the most out of Pedro, so he’s willing to occasionally change his formation.
The former Barcelona and Chelsea star turned 38 this summer, and yet, he was arguably the club’s best overall player in the 2024/25 season, as he emerged as the team’s ultimate savior on several occasions.
Nevertheless, the veteran realizes he’s no longer capable of darting up and down the wing as he used to, so he’ll have to be deployed precariously to maximize his potential. Therefore, Pedro revealed that Sarri has promised him he’ll get to play behind the striker, which has now become his most suitable role.
I spoke to Sarri about my role. I’ll still be able to play behind the striker. At my age, it’s difficult to play as a winger, as I’m slower than my teammates.
As Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) explains, Sarri and Pedro have made a pact ahead of the new campaign. While the head coach is still expected to implement his favorite 4-3-3 formation on most occasions, he’s willing to make some adjustments when he introduces Pedro who will be most likely brought in the second half as a super-sub.
With the Spaniard on the pitch, Lazio could shift into a 4-2-3-1 system, similar to the formation adopted by Marco Baroni last season. In this case, either one of the midfielders will be sacrificed, especially if the team is searching for a goal, or Fisayo Dele-Bashiru would be deployed on the flanks.
