According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica do not plan to sign Mauro Icardi for 2026/27. Despite recent speculation, Marco Silva is not set to add the Argentina international to his attack.
Several factors are said to rule out the move, notably the striker’s wage demands. Even if available on a free, his salary is considered beyond the realities of Portuguese football.
Off-field controversies also weigh against the deal. Family issues, disputes with team-mates, confrontations with supporters and a legal case over an alleged failure to pay rent on a property in Istanbul are viewed as risks.
Silva still wants another striker, but with a different profile. He is targeting a younger forward with room to develop and resale potential, who can deliver immediately on the pitch.
Last season with Galatasaray, Icardi, valued at four million euros, played 47 matches, 31 in the league in Türkiye, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Turkish Cup and two in the Turkish Super Cup. Across 2,093 minutes, he scored 16 goals and provided three assists.
