Maycon celebrates goal and hails Corinthians’ display in victory

Maycon scored a stunning goal from outside the box and secured Corinthians' victory, helping the club climb up the Brasileirão standings. After the match, in the mixed zone, the midfielder and team captain spoke about the team's performance in the victory and recalled the poor match against Santos in the previous round.

"So, I'm much happier with the team's performance than with my goal itself. Of course, I'm happy, but I think the team is more important than anything. And I'm happy with that," Maycon began.

"I think the poor match (against Santos) was overall, it wasn't just my participation. Everyone played very poorly. We held ourselves accountable for that. It lifted a weight because I think it was a game we needed to win. Our team came prepared to win. We had a great equation. And I think that's the main thing. Maintaining this balance for the rest of the season will be very important for our team," the midfielder added.

After a sequence of seven games without a win in Itaquera, Corinthians regained their good form at home with two consecutive victories – against Mirassol and Atlético-MG. Maycon spoke about the home performance, despite the missed opportunities in attack.

"I think our team has been showing this in the last games at the Arena. It's a strength we have. With the fans we have, we need to make the most of it. Unfortunately, we had some opportunities and couldn't convert. But I think these are details we can correct,"

Corinthians' next commitment is on the weekend, against Vitória, for the 30th round of the Brasileirão. After the first leg at Neo Química Arena, the match will take place at Barradão, in Salvador-BA, on Saturday, at 4 PM (Brasília time).
