All eyes will be on Real Madrid this week as they look to recover from a shocking 2-1 defeat at the hands of Mallorca.

The record European champions will take on Bayern Munich on Tuesday, in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals. It promises to be a litmus test for coach Alvaro Arbeloa.

While one would expect Real Madrid to play freely in the first leg, there are certain things the players must be mindful of, including unnecessary bookings.

Six Real Madrid players at risk of missing the second leg

That is because no fewer than six Real Madrid players are currently at risk of potentially missing out on the second leg tie against Bayern Munich.

The players in question are Kylian Mbappe, Aurelien Tchouameni, Jude Bellingham, Dean Huijsen, Vinicius Jr. and Alvaro Carreras.

All of these players are running the risk of a suspension due to the Champions League’s strict yellow card norms, which ban a player for a game if they pick up three yellow cards.

That means all these players have picked up at least two yellow cards this season, and a third one on Tuesday could see them being ruled out for the second leg.

Given the apparent injury crisis at Real Madrid, this is something the team simply cannot afford. If they can manage to remain booking-free during the quarterfinal stage, their yellow card count will be replenished from semifinal onwards.

But until then, not even one of these individuals can afford a silly yellow card and risk Real Madrid running short of options in the second leg, which will be played in the hostile environment of the Allianz Arena.
