Xabi Alonso made a winning start with Real Madrid in LaLiga as Real Madrid edged Osasuna to a 1-0 win at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Scorers: Mbappé 51'
Real Madrid quickly seized control of possession and pushed for an early opener, but struggled to weave a way through the Osasuna backline, with Éder Militão's long-range shot the best opportunity for Los Blancos inside the opening 30 minutes.
Vinícius Júnior had a late penalty appeal turned down before half time after Flavien-Enzo Boyomo's heavy tackle, but the referee turned down any Real Madrid protests.
Los Blancos were awarded a penalty early in the second period after Juan Cruz caught Kylian Mbappé with a sliding tackle inside the area. Mbappé took the resulting spot-kick and found the bottom corner.
Despite the lively cameos of teenage Franco Mastantuono and Club World Cup star Gonzalo García from the bench in the closing 25 minutes, Real Madrid couldn't add a second.
In the final action of the game, Osasuna's Abel Bretones was shown a straight red card for tangling and lashing out at García.
Real Madrid were completely dominant against Osasuna and closed out a comfortable home triumph to get their 2025/26 LaLiga campaign up and running in the Alonso era.
