France maintained their perfect start to World Cup qualifying with a 3-0 victory against Azerbaijan at the Parc des Princes.
The match unfolded largely as expected, with Azerbaijan defending deep and France controlling possession from the outset.
Moments into the second half, however, Kylian Mbappé produced the breakthrough. The Real Madrid forward weaved past defenders at the edge of the box, combined with Hugo Ekitiké and slotted a low finish into the corner, giving France a deserved lead.
The hosts continued to dominate, pressing high and exploiting space on the wings. On 69 minutes, Mbappé’s persistence paid off again, picking up a loose ball before crossing perfectly for Adrien Rabiot, who powered a header into the net to make it 2-0.
The finishing touch came in the final stages as Florian Thauvin, making his first appearance for France in over six years, was released by Théo Hernández and struck a brilliant volley to seal a 3-0 win.
The result keeps France top of Group D with three wins from three, and they could mathematically secure their 17th World Cup appearance in their next fixture against Iceland. Azerbaijan remain bottom of the group, with their next match a tough trip to Poland on 13 October.
