Memphis Depay has sparked debate with a cryptic social media post as he nears the end of his Corinthians contract.
According to Globo.com, the image shows a man hanging from a tree faced with three risky choices. Stay in a job and face a snake, switch jobs and fall into a river of alligators, or leave without a plan B and confront a lion.
The post was interpreted as a crossroads, and reaction online was mixed, with many negative comments aimed at the player.
His deal runs until 20 June and no renewal has been agreed. Corinthians owes him about R$ 42 million, and talks over payment are currently frozen.
Depay is sidelined with a grade two right thigh injury suffered on 22 March. He has yet to make an appearance under new head coach Fernando Diniz.
Corinthians face Palmeiras at the Neo Química Arena on Sunday at 18:30 Brasília time in the 11th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
