Michael Carrick welcomes Lacey and Tyler Fredricson back to training

Manchester Evening News journalist Steven Railston further verified that Lacey was one half of a ‘double injury boost’ for Michael Carrick, as young defender Tyler Fredricson has also recovered from his setback.

Both young Reds were able to join up with the first team for their pre-Bournemouth training session on Wednesday, though it remains to be seen if either will make the trip to Dorset for tonight’s clash.

Fredricson is perhaps the most likely to at least make the squad, as Carrick is navigating a depleted backline; Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt will both be absent this evening, meaning Leny Yoro is set to retain his place alongside Harry Maguire.

How Lacey has fared since making his United debut in December

As for Lacey, he hasn’t featured for United since the side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Brighton and Hove Albion in January.

The 18-year-old came on in the 62nd minute to try and make an impact, but in under half an hour, he had been shown two yellow cards and given his marching orders.

That marked the last game of Darren Fletcher’s tenure as caretaker manager, and Carrick has yet to call upon the attacker since taking the reins. However, Lacey was included on the bench for the win over Fulham on February 1.

He’ll be hoping he can add to his three senior appearances before the culmination of the term, especially if United can get their top-four spot cemented as swiftly as possible.
