Messi and De Paul called up by Argentina for FIFA World Cup 2026

According to Inter Miami, captain Leo Messi and midfielder Rodrigo De Paul have been called up by Argentina for the FIFA World Cup 2026, making them the club’s second and third World Cup representatives. Messi is set for an unprecedented sixth finals.
He led Argentina to the 2021 and 2024 CONMEBOL Copa América titles and the 2022 CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions, then captained the side to the 2022 World Cup.
Messi holds Argentina’s records for caps, 198, and goals, 116. He also leads the World Cup charts for goals, 13, and matches, 26, and is the only player to have scored in the group stage, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
De Paul is set for a second World Cup after a key role in the 2022 triumph. A mainstay alongside Messi in the 2021 and 2024 Copa América and the 2022 Cup of Champions wins, he has 85 caps and two goals for Argentina.
Argentina were drawn in Group J with Algeria, Austria and Jordan. Tuesday, June 16 at 9 p.m. ET, Argentina vs. Algeria, Kansas City Stadium. Monday, June 22 at 1 p.m. ET, Argentina vs. Austria, and Saturday, June 27 at 10 p.m. ET, Jordan vs. Argentina, both at Dallas Stadium.
